Day 5: Petrified Forest and Painted Desert
Hi family and friends! After a freezing night, we woke up and immediately get on
the bus to leave New Mexico Military Institute!!
We drove for a very long time and were slumped (asleep)
pretty much the whole ride
While driving down the road, we picked up a hitchhiker- our
friend Grant Deaton who will rejoin us as we hike the Grand Canyon !!
We arrived around 12:00 PM at the Painted Desert! It was so
different than everything we’ve seen before; it was “painted” with so many
colors!
Claire Thompson gave a research presentation on The Petrified Forrest
Matthew Barker presented research on The River Walk of San Antonio
Logan Webb told us all about the State of Texas
Aly Noble shared her research on San Antonio
Blaine Kimrey explained the history of the Alamo
We then stopped in the Petrified Forrest to take pictures of everyone on a huge petrified tree!!
The Happy Group!!
The Grumpy Group!
The Sleepy Group!!
The Sneezy Group!
The Bashful Group!!
The Dopey Group!
On the way out of the Petrified Forrest, we had to kiss a petrified tree for luck!!
We arrived at the Grand Canyon
around 8:00 pm, barely missing the sunset. A lot of participants were excited
that they were able to hang their Eno hammocks at our campsite! We got
everything ready to hike the Grand Canyon in the morning and went to bed
immediately to get up at 3:30 AM to hike!!
