Day 1- Sendoff & LaGrange

Day 1: LaGrange College

Hi this is the Bashful group!! This group consists of 12 people: Richard Whitfield, Becca Karriker, Matthew Barker, Savannah Harris, Bryce Taylor, Meg Brennan, Alexis Patterson, Haley Chuor, Jimmy Byrne, Lauren Angus, Logan MacQueen, Macy Long, and Albert Bright.

Today we met at Mallard Creek Church Community Center to leave on our adventure across the United States!!

Dennis and Grant Deaton spoke to our group before we took off, giving our parents reassurance and giving us some advice

We departed from Mallard Creek Church Community Center with happy smiles that have lasted and nervous bellies that quickly faded!!

We experienced our first travelling lunch, which consisted of gourmet ham, turkey and cheese sandwiches, chips and “freshly baked” cookies.

We also experienced our first Flying J gas station where we all took advantage of our second bathroom break. Instead of regular naps we took “nips.” A “Nip” is a short nap (we can’t take long naps yet.)

Our next stop was at good old Walmart!!

The Happy group is our first group of cooks, so they dove straight into picking out our food for the evening.

We stampeded the watch stand, which did not disappoint us with their extensive selection and fair prices.

We arrived at Lagrange College in Georgia!! Mark Windham gave his research on the college and did a fantastic job.

The happies prepared a gourmet meal of burgers, watermelon, chips and cookies for us while we mingled in our groups!! Our groups had to build human pyramids to determine who got to eat first- it was the grumpy group!

We then participated in various relay races, and the Dopey and Sleepy groups tied for first overall!!

We ended the night with a sing-along before heading off to sleep with the trains of Lagrange!!!

Our first day is complete!

Before the Trip

We arrived early Thursday at the Deaton household to finish getting ready.  Here are some snapshots of the (organized) chaos!

The vans have arrived and are ready to be washed!!

Everyone worked hard to get the vans as clean as they can be!

We capped off the van washing with a lunch break involving Kendall and Adam cutting watermelon for everyone! They only lost a collective three fingers.

Preparing the TWB banners at Mallard Creek so participants know where to come for the send off!

We hit up R&R BBQ for our last NC meal!

Saying "Peace Out" to NC!!! Can't wait to see everyone's lovely faces in the morning!!!!!!
